There are no rules here - this is Vietnam

Bathrooms in vietnam ran the gamut from gross and filthy, to gorgeous and clean. With some interesting peculiarities in toilet arrangement and great signage.

Some amenities from our hotel in Cat Ba. A little shampoo, toothbrushes, and q-tips.

Bathroom in roadside restaurant on the way to Khmer village outside of Hoi An.

Bathroom in the MArket in Haiphong. Notice the 2 toilets, you had to pass through the first toilet to get to stall. There was also no lock on the door to the first toilet. There was however toilet paper.

What do you think is behind the door? Also i like practicing my foreign languages by memorizing what's on the sign.

Signage in Siagon, i love that natural patina!

The bathrooms were always colorful.
This one didn't have toilet paper but they did provide a dump bucket.

Hong Kong - maybe it's in the signs

Hong Kong had some of the nicest toilets that i have come across in my travels. But this weeks edition of When You Gotta Go introduces you to my love of details. I love the signs that are you used in restrooms, and the signage that indicates which room is for boys and which is for girls. For more pictures of Hong Kong check out my other blog.

This busy bee wants you to keep it clean

Seriously?! Fook Woo paper....maybe my mind just goes places it shouldn't

The little sign on the mirror says slippery floor.

it's in the signs

Sometimes a sign explains it all, found this gem in singapore. Number 6 is very important! Check out my other blog for  more travel photos from south east asia. Two shots and a Kim!

1. Do Not Litter
2. Aim well at urinal or toilet bowl
3. Clean up after use
4. keep the floor dry. Do not flick water on the floor.
5. Flush after use.
6. Do not squat on the toilet bowl.

Laos Bathrooms

I'm sure in Laos they are out there, the gross, the disgusting, the no toilet paper, no seat kind of bathroom. Perhaps i was lucky and just didn't come across one, or perhaps we stayed in nicer hotels. That being said the bathrooms i encountered in Laos all rated pretty high on my rating scale.  The bathroom below is from the lovely Sayo Guest house in Luang Prabang. The room was small, but the bathroom was clean and the toilet paper plentiful. Check out my other blog to see more pictures from Laos.  two shots and a kim

5 star toilet in thailand

Today's post is about thailand. We have spent a decent amount of time in thailand. i would say approximately 5 months of time during various trips to south east asia. There are MANY MANY kinds of toilets in thailand.  They range from your regular 'western-ish' toilet, to the basic squat, to the stand on squat. To see pictures from 2011 Songrkan in Bangkok check out my other blog.

The mention stand on squatter. Just when i thought i had gotten the hang of the squat, i came across this beauty at the bus station in Hat Yai. This one is pretty precarious, it's always slight damp in these bathrooms, as you have to use a bucket to dump water into the bowl to flush.

I was pretty impressed when i saw this sign for a 5 star bathroom at the national library in thailand, the picture below is the 5 star bathroom.
the elusive 5 start toilet in asia. It held up to it's promise, it had been cleaned right before i entered. There was a door with a working lock, toilet paper, a toilet seat, and a sink with soap to wash your hands.

Which button do i push?

I'm going to tie my 2 blogs together today (two shots and a kim). today on the other blog i posted photos from the student riots in rome during december of 2010. So i figured what better than to show you what toilets in rome are like.

this WC is hygienized after every use

This is a very common flusher in europe.
 Big flush or little flush,
or as someone has nicely explained
big button pupu, little button pipi

Don't be surprised if you come across a squat in europe, they still exist.
At least they usually have a flusher unlike asia.

Rest stop to no where

Welcome to my new blog! i love bathrooms, and in my travels i have learned that they come in all shapes, sizes, and levels of cleanliness.  Some of the pictures will be of beautiful bathrooms in fancy houses, hotels, or restaurants. Other's like the one above won't be so nice.

The toilet pictured above is from the lone rest stop between cairo and the white desert. This is the restroom i was using when i realized that i was a lot more sick then i originally thought. From this point of the trip for the next 3 months of travel i spent most of my time in the bathroom. At one point we traveled to Dubai, so that i could have a nice fully westernized bathroom....or at least that was our excuse. Subscribe and keep an eye on the blog for more awesome bathroom pictures!
